Waterford Photographer Collects Award of Excellence in UK
Waterford Master Photographer, Gerry O'Carroll LMPA has scooped a highly coveted International Award for one of his photographs. Gerry has gained the British Professional Photography Awards 2005 Overseas Award of excellence, at a glittering Gala presentation, recently held at The Hilton Hotel, Coventry, UK (Sunday 16th October).

This is Gerry's second International Award, having being a Master Photographers Association Excellence Award Winner in 2003.

Gerry beat off competition from over 3000 entries from Master Photographers around the globe to take the title. Over 350 Professional Photographers attended the prestigious Awards ceremony, with the Award being presented by MPA President, Gerry O'Leary FMPA.

Gerry's contemporary father & daughter Portrait of Dungarvan baby, Eve Power and her dad, Noel, features in the Annual Master Photographers exhibition which will travel to a number of Countries during the next 12 months and also in the accompanying Book illustrating 2005's outstanding images.

The Awards are a joint initiative between the Master Photographers Association and the British Institute of Professional Photographers. Membership of the British Institute pf Professional Photography (BIPP) and Master Photographers Association (MPA) is restricted to full-time professional Photographers who must qualify to the minimum Licentiateship standard. They are the UK's leading bodies for Photographers and exist to promote and maintain standards of excellence and professionalism.

The inaugural British Professional Photography Awards took place last year. This year's competition was a great success with over 3000 entries received. The judges had the difficult task of choosing 100 Awards of Excellence. The standard of work was outstanding and shows that image makers are continuing to push the boundaries of creativity.

Its All About Eve!
9-month-old Eve Power, Currabaha, Dungarvan, is "Best In Ireland, 2005". At least her Portrait is. Captured at four months, nestled on her dad Noel's hand, by Waterford Photographer, Gerry O'Carroll, Eve's image has been judged "Best Portrait Image" at the Irish Professional Photographers Association's (IPPA) 9th Annual National Photographic Awards in Dublin's Burlington Hotel recently. (Sun, April 17th)

This is the second time in three years that Gerry has landed Ireland's premier Portrait Award, having previously achieved the accolade at the 2003 IPPA Awards.

Eve is understandably speechless at all the commotion, but her mum, Rose, commented "Gerry has been photographing our children since 2001. Every session with him has produced beautiful Portraits and exciting memories". Eve's dad, Noel, added "When Gerry phoned to tell us the great news about Eve's Portrait, we were thrilled and delighted".

Gerry's Portrait of Eve received an engraved Trophy commissioned from Waterford Crystal and, was part of a six-image Portfolio of Children's Portraits, which was awarded a prestigious "Merit Award" in the Best Portrait Portfolio Category, the only Portrait Merit Award for the year.

Not content with all that, the Waterford-Man claimed 1 Diamond, 2 Gold, 8 Silver and 4 Bronze Crests for individual print entries (there were only three Diamond Crests awarded all year) and he finally completed a busy evening's work by scooping a runner-up slot in the Paschal Brooks Award for "Best Wedding Album".

When asked to explain his continued success, Gerry stated " It is unbelievable to win this Premier Portrait Award for a second time. They say that lightning doesn't strike twice. It is really difficult to talk about one Portrait over another, but for the time being, it is definitely all about Eve".

The IPPA is the professional body representing over 300 practicing Photographer members nationwide and it's awards programme, the National Photographic Awards are generously sponsored by Royal & Sunalliance Insurance plc, who operate branches nationally, and at 21/22 Merchant's Quay, Waterford.
